What is SHED?

SHED is a supportive, healthy, effective, diet, based on a research integrating ground-breaking psychotherapy techniques with a healthy diet.  But don't let the name fool you.  It is not another diet to lose weight.  SHED helps you customize your diet to fit your goals, allowing you to:

  • be your best self
  • feel good
  • feel healthier 
  • increase your energy
  • fit into those awesome skinny jeans!

SHED helps you lose weight and keep it off!  It is up to twice as effective as standard weight loss treatments. SHED teaches highly specialized self-regulation skills so individuals trying to lose weight can continue making healthful choices long after the program ends.  

What does the program look like?

SHED is a comprehensive, highly structured program that integrates:

  • diet and nutrition
  • twice monthly support meetings 
  • personal accountability
  • psychotherapy techniques aimed at reducing urges and increasing distress tolerance
  • adherence to your personal values so you aren’t just losing weight for the sake of losing weight
  • weekly weigh-ins
  • food diaries with personalized feedback from a nutritionist 

How much weight can I expect to lose?

We recommend that you set a 10% weight loss goal (this can be adjusted as you lose weight). Previous program participants have lost 13.3% on average at one year follow-up.  If you are trying to lose those 10 or 20 pounds from the holidays or have a significant amount of weight to lose, SHED is right for you.  

Length of program

The program is 12 weeks long, with twice monthly meetings that are 75 minutes long.  

Do I need physican approval?

If you have any existing health issues that may be negatively impacted by a change in diet, then we will work with you to get physician approval, and in some cases physician monitoring is required. You must be able to walk two city blocks to enroll in the program.

Weight Loss Classes Beginning September 23, 2019

Reserve you spot for this 12 week class (meets twice monthly) which teaches you the skills to get past your diet hurdles.  Based on solid behavioral science research, these classes teach you the psychological skills to help you stick with your dieting program, in addition to providing accountability. The program cost is $50 per class, with 12 classes required.  Classes are twice a month, Mondays at 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. 


Ask about our corporate sponsorship requirements to receive a discount to your tuition.  

You MAY be able to use your health savings account, depending upon your HSA.  This typically requires a prescription from your physician.
